Mark McNulty Junior Golf Foundation

Born on 25 October 1953 in Bindura, Zimbabwe, Mark McNulty’s journey in golf is a story of talent, perseverance and an unwavering passion for the game. Turning professional in 1977, McNulty quickly established himself as one of the most respected golfers of his generation, combining natural ability with remarkable discipline and determination.

From a young age, McNulty was a gifted athlete across several sports, but it was golf where his true potential emerged. Throughout his career, he demonstrated extraordinary resilience, overcoming a number of physical setbacks while continuing to compete at the highest level.

In 1980, he escaped with facial injuries after a car accident involving a bus near his parents’ farm. Years later, in 1993, a freak neck nerve injury sustained while playing cricket with his children in Cape Town threatened his career, while a knee injury disrupted his 1995 season. Each challenge tested his resolve, but McNulty’s ability to recover and return stronger became a defining feature of his career.

One of the standout moments of his career came at the 1987 British Masters, where his composure under pressure produced one of his most memorable shots. Facing the final hole, McNulty played a superb pitch from 68 yards to within nine feet of the pin, securing victory over Ian Woosnam in dramatic fashion.

McNulty’s approach to golf has always been influenced by the legends of the game. As a young player, he admired the attacking style and charisma of Arnold Palmer before refining his game with the precision and discipline associated with Gary Player. His appreciation for golf’s history is reflected in his favourite course, the Old Course at St Andrews — although he admits it is best enjoyed when the Scottish weather is at its finest.

Away from the fairways, McNulty’s interests reveal a curious and creative personality. He is an accomplished pianist and enjoys wildlife photography, fine arts is an accomplished drone pilot.

His dream fourball would feature three of the game’s greatest icons — Bobby Locke, Ben Hogan and Walter Hagen — a reflection of his deep respect for golf’s heritage and its legends.

Beyond his achievements as a player, Mark McNulty’s legacy is defined by more than trophies and records. His resilience, sportsmanship and passion for the game continue to inspire future generations of golfers.
